Runners brave icy Fall Classic

The temperature was about six degrees on Sunday morning when the annual New Balance Fall Classic got underway at UBC and conditions only got worse as the rain started to fall and the wind picked up.

Still, close to a thousand runners took part in the half marathon, including several Sea to Sky athletes.

The top local was Whistler's Ashley McMillan, who placed sixth in the 30 to 39 age group and 20 th overall with a chip time of 1:24:24.

Ben Biswell was just five spots back, and 13 th in the 20 to 29 age group, in 1:26:52.

Squamish's Sean McCreanor was 45 th overall and 10 th in the 30 to 39 group in 1:29:52.

James Newby was 36 th in the same category in 1:43:32.

His time was not listed on the official results, but Stuart Carmichael of Pemberton finished around the same time.

Nicole Jean of Mt. Currie was 14 th in women 30 to 39 in 1:44:28.

Kristy Cramp of Whistler was 23 rd in women 20 to 29 in 1:48:22.

Ryan Peterson was 70 th in men 30 to 39 in 1:53:37.

Carly Lewis was 48 th in women 30 to 39 in 1:57:11.

Jessica Clarke was 56 th in women 20 to 39 in 1:59:13.

Connie Sobchak of Pemberton was 22 nd in women 50 to 59 in 2:09:11.

Meridee Fitch was 107 th in women 40 to 49 in 2:22:15.

Catharine Ireland was 144 th in women 30 to 39 in 2:30:56.

In the 10 km race, Libby McKeever was third in women 50 to 49 in 50:21.

Corinne Cowden was 22 nd in women 40 to 49 in 52:31.

Crystal Tonkin of Pemberton was 30 th in women 20 to 29 in 53:48.

Claire Donaue of Whistler was 23 rd in 50 to 59 in 57:40.

Susanne Pelly of Squamish was 69 th in women 40 to 49 in 1:00:25.

Anna Sinclair of Pemberton was 119 th in women 40 to 49 in 1:11:24.

In the 5 km run Chris Gamel was 31 st overall and third in the 50 to 59 race in 22:15.
