A report of an erratic driver ended in a big, stinky mess for the Whistler RCMP last week.

On September 11 at about 6:30 a.m., police responded to a report of a vehicle swerving on Highway 99 near Retta Lake Road.

The vehicle was driven by a female, with the registered owner sitting in the passenger seat.

"Checks on him indicated that he was on an undertaking bound by conditions not to be in contact with the driver," said Whistler RCMP staff sgt. Steve LeClair, adding that the man — who was "belligerent with police" — was eventually arrested.

"While in the cells he defecated on the cell floor, smeared it on the walls and surveillance camera (and) broke a sprinkler, damaging it," LeClair said.

The 38-year-old Saanichton man is now facing mischief charges in addition to charges concerning the breach of his undertaking.

"We've had people damage sprinkler heads in the past," LeClair said.

"The other behaviour is a little bit less common."

RCMP SEEK INFO ABOUT SEXUAL ASSAULT

Police are looking for information concerning a sexual assault that occurred in the village in the early morning hours of Sept. 12.

The suspect is described as being in his late 20s, Caucasian, 5-6 and 180 pounds. He was wearing a grey knitted sweater.

"The victim said she was dancing with this male earlier at the nightclub, and that she understood that he was a groom celebrating his bachelor party in Whistler," LeClair said.

The victim believes she may have been drugged.

"She remembers coming to while seated in a treed area just outside of the village, where a male was zipping up his pants," LeClair said.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact the Whistler RCMP.

TRUCK THIEF FAILS, ESCAPES ON FOOT

After attempting to steal a flatdeck crane truck — and crashing it — a mastermind thief did their best to cover their tracks before making off with what they could carry.

The truck was found crashed into a barricade in the 1400 block of Alta Lake Road early on the morning of September 15.

"It appears that the suspect was unable to drive the truck up a hill, consequently rolling back down into the barricade," LeClair said.

"They then activated a fire extinguisher inside the cabin. Some Grip Sure straps valued at $300 to $400 were taken along with some walkey-talkey type radios."

Police found the fire extinguisher near the site of the crash and were able to collect the suspect's fingerprints.

The investigation is ongoing — anyone with relevant info should contact Whistler RCMP.

SINGLE-VEHICLE ROLLOVER ON HIGHWAY 99

A 45-year-old Squamish female was taken to hospital after being involved in a single vehicle rollover south of the Callaghan on Sept. 15.

"The driver had to be cut from the vehicle and was airlifted to Vancouver General with police accompanying her," LeClair said, adding that the driver's condition was initially thought to be serious but improved in hospital.

"There is some suspicion that the driver may have been impaired given some observations made by the witnesses of her driving behaviour prior to the collision."

The incident is under investigation.

WHISTLER MEN ARRESTED FOR COCAINE POSSESSION

Two Whistler men — aged 23 and 27 — are facing drug charges after being arrested in the village on Sept. 13.

RCMP foot patrol found the men behind the Whistler Conference Centre.

"One male had a cell phone with two lines of white powder, suspected cocaine, while the other male had a rolled up $5 bill on his lap," LeClair said.

One of the males also had a bag of marijuana in his backpack.

The men were released on a promise to appear in court.
