Delgado is North America’s most accomplished underwater archaeologist and in his latest book, Adventures of a Sea Hunter: In Search of Famous Shipwrecks, he explores some of the world’s famous wrecks, and shares his newest and most astounding discoveries. Along with this book, the Whistler Library has other titles by Delgado – Across the Top of the World: The Quest for the Northwest Passage; Lost Warships: An Archaeological Tour of War at Sea; and Native American Shipwrecks , a children’s book.

In his latest book, Delgado joins history with archaeology to bring life to his discoveries. He has created a highly entertaining, personal account of the exploration of the sea and the past that rests beneath the waves. He has led or participated in shipwreck expeditions around the world, and led the first detailed archaeological study of a shipwreck in the Arctic on the sunken remains of Roald Amundsen’s exploration ship Maud.

Executive Director of the Vancouver Maritime Museum, archaeologist, historian educator, curator, explorer, occasional journalist, television host and consummate storyteller, Delgado has spent much of his life in pursuit of the past... and a good tale. His passion for the past is more than academic. He lives to touch the past, to go where few have gone before.

Delgado co-hosts the popular National Geographic television series, The Sea Hunters, with popular novelist Clive Cussler, diver Mike Fletcher and team leader John Davis. In Whistler, the show airs on the History Channel (Cable channel 46) on Saturdays at 4 p.m. The team scours the depths of the world’s oceans to solve some of the greatest maritime mysteries as well as infamous seafaring mishaps, some dating back as far as the notorious Mongol invasion of 1281. From a rock-strewn archipelago off the coast of Finland and the crystal-clear waters of a Pacific island paradise, to the flooded hillside caves of a remote German slave labour camp, the Sea Hunters dive in a wide array of underwater environments. They hope to gain information about these celebrated ships, the intriguing masters who ran them, and the mind-boggling cargo that may remain locked – and still intact – in their bellies.

James Delgado will also be presenting his slide show at the Pemberton Public Library on Thursday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. The show scheduled for the Squamish Public Library on Nov. 2 has been postponed until spring 2005.

These events are sponsored by your local libraries and the Writers in Libraries program of the Public Library Services Branch, Ministry of Community, Aboriginal and Women’s Services.
