The award is meant to publicly recognize and honour a local business or individual business leader for making a significant impact on or contribution to Whistlers arts and culture scene.
Nominations will be accepted from members of the arts and culture and business communities until Dec. 10, 2004. The award will be presented at the Whistler Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005.
A five-member jury made up of representatives from the Arts Council, Chamber and individuals from the community will review the nominations.
Businesses of any size that have supported local arts and heritage events and programs in the last calendar year are eligible.
The first annual award recipient was Whiski Jack Resorts Whistler Ltd., recognized for partnering with several local arts groups over the years to provide accommodation for visiting performers and artists.
The luncheon featured a keynote address by renowned arts commentator and advocate Max Wyman.
Whiski Jack was presented with an original painting by illustrious longtime local artist Isobel MacLaurin. The award will continue to be sourced from the local art community.
