Seniors intergenerational activity centre to open

Whistler seniors will soon be able to enjoy weekly programming, use new lap top computers, print materials, enjoy Wii Fit and board games, hear special presentations, and access reference materials at a new activity centre set to open Sept.6The Mature Action Committee (MAC) has received a grant from the Government of Canada's New Horizons For Seniors Program to help enhance the lives of seniors and increase their participation in the community, which has helped make the activity centre a reality. The funding will support efforts for a seniors intergenerational activity centre to operate out of the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation Social Services Centre, which opened in February 2012.MAC has partnered with Whistler Community Services Society (WCSS) to operate the centre. The grant also covered infrastructure such as new furniture and a contribution towards a BBQ for social events.A grand opening of the centre will be held Thursday, September 6, 2012 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. At 11:30 a.m. there will be a short presentation and ribbon cutting featuring MP John Weston, Whistler Mayor Nancy Wilhelm-Morden, Whistler Blackcomb Foundation's Jaime Kerrigan, WCSS Executive Director Lorna Van Straaten and MAC President Sue Lawther.
