Despite a series of injuries, Canada's ski cross team captured the overall Nations Cup with another fine showing at the World Cup finals at Myrkdale-Voss, Norway.
Chris Del Bosco won the final race for Canada, bringing his gold medal tally to four on the season, including the World Championships. After a slow start while he recovered from knee surgery, Del Bosco has made the finals in seven consecutive races dating back to Jan. 1, and has been on the podium in six out of seven events. He added one bronze and a silver to go with his four gold medals.
Still, the slow start was costly and in the end Del Bosco had to settle for second in the overall World Cup standings.
In Norway, Del Bosco edged out Conradign Netzerof Switzerland, Tomas Kraus of Czech Republic and John Teller of the U.S. for the win. Nick Zoricic and David Duncan both reached the small final and placed seventh and eighth for Canada. Brian Bennett and Davey Barr were 16th and 18th respectively in the field of 32 athletes that qualified.
"It was a good way to finish," said Del Bosco, who has placed second in the overall for three consecutive years. "I'm pretty excited. I had a decent start in the final and skied my own race."
On the women's side, Kelsey Serwa placed second in the final race, bringing her medal tally for the season to six, with two wins (including the World Championships) and four silver medals.
Anna Holmlund of Sweden won the last event and the overall title, with Katrin Mueller of Switzerland taking the bronze medal. Other Canadians in the mix were Danielle Poleschuk, who placed 13th, and Whistler's Marielle Thompson in 14th place.
"In the first two heats I got out front," said Serwa. "The course is really technical. I was a little bit ahead of Anna (in the finals) but she was on the side and got a little bit ahead. I kept waiting for a spot to pass. I was hoping for something but she was a little too far away."
