Slam City Jam skate contest returns to Van

More than 200 amateur and professional skateboarders in the world, not to mention the best homegrown talent, will be in Vancouver from May 4 to 6 to compete in the annual Slam City Jam, part of the Vans Triple Crown of Skateboarding.

More than 200 amateur and professional skateboarders in the world, not to mention the best homegrown talent, will be in Vancouver from May 4 to 6 to compete in the annual Slam City Jam, part of the Vans Triple Crown of Skateboarding.

There will be pro street and vert ramp contests for men and women at the Pacific Coliseum, best trick contests, a bowl session in the new Hastings Skatepark adjacent to the Coliseum, and an invitational "amateur jam on the Saturday night.

May 4 – Street qualifying and pro jam.

May 5 – Street semi-finals and vert qualifier.

May 6 – Girls Contest, Street and Vert Finals, Best Tricks

The music for the event will be provided by Jurassic 5 and Suicidal Tendencies, plus DJ’s and other bands still to be announced.

More than $70,000 in prize money is up for grabs at the event.

The list of athletes is getting bigger every day, but from Vancouver you can expect Alex Chalmers, Rick McCrank, Paul Machnau, and Rob "Sluggo" Boyce. Pierre-Luc Gagnon of Quebec is also fun to watch.

International skaters include legends like Carlos de Andrade (Brazil), Lance Mountain (U.S), Ryan Johnson (U.S.), Willy Santon (U.S.) and Steve Caballero (U.S.).

There will also be a public skatepark and an art gallery showcasing the work of skater artists.
