The Whistler Gymnastics Trampoline Team headed down to the Shasta Trampoline Club in New Westminster this past weekend to take part in a practice meet where athletes would have a chance to try out their routines and learn more about judging. The judges overlooked errors and were less demanding than usual, but still gave out ranking and certificates to new participants.

From Whistler, Stephen Lindsay-Ross placed first in Level 2 trampoline and third in Level 2 Double Mini Trampoline;

Joe Davies was first in Level 2 Double Mini Trampoline and third in Level 3 Trampoline, with Level 3 representing a provincial level of competition.

Jamie Gormely placed third in Level 2 Double Mini Trampoline, Caitlin MacConnachie was second in Level 1 Double Mini Trampoline, Keeley Wentzel was third in Level 2 Trampoline and Jett Williams was third in Level 1 Trampoline.

After the competition, the team stayed for a clinic hosted by Tim Cleave, Bryan Milonja and members of Shasta currently competing on the national team.

WORCA seeking directors for 2013

The Whistler Off-Road Cycling Association is looking to recruit three volunteer directors for the 2013 season, and is hosting a Special General Meeting on Dec. 4 to amend the club's bylaws and appoint three directors. All members are eligible to attend the meeting or to run for any of the board vacancies.

Tony Horn is stepping down as the director of race, and the position is being divided into two roles — director of XC/toonie rides and director of downhill/special events. As well, the roles will make more use of paid WORCA staff in planning races, including 20 Toonie Rides and special events like the women-only Charlie's Angels race.

In addition, WORCA is seeking expressions of interest for a director of fundraising to run the bike swap and look at ways to leverage the mountain bike club's membership — a record 1,800 in 2012 — into more sponsorship for the club's activities like trail maintenance. The deadline to apply for these board positions in Nov. 30, and the job descriptions are posted online at www.worca.com. Applications can be emailed to info@worca.com.

The WORCA board meets roughly once a month outside of special events. Winter events include the annual Toonie Ride date fixing meeting and early planning for the annual bike swap.

Titans back on top

After a few frustrating weeks and injury issues, the Sea to Sky Pee-Wee Titans finished their season on a high note with a 19-0 win over the North Vancouver Vikings. Scott Friestadt scored first for the Titans with a 40-yard run on the opening drive. Aiden White scored next, and Luke Haasen caught a long pass from Adam Klimchuck-Brown, who also added the extra point. The Titans finished in a three-way tie for second place with a record of 6-3-1, but were ranked fourth based on points scored.

The long-suffering Sea to Sky Minor Titans posted their second win of the season on Sunday with a 25-19 victory over the second-ranked Colts to finish with a record of 2-8-0. Nolan Welch scored three times and Hunter Vernor added another, as well as a convert on a pass from quarterback Jack Forsyth. It came down to the wire with the Colts marching down the field, but Forsyth also made an interception on the final seconds to secure the win.

Both the peewee and minor teams play in the full contact North Shore Football League.

Meanwhile the Whistler Saints flag football team had a bye week before playoffs get underway this Sunday. The Saints posted just one loss and one tie in eight games to rank second overall.

AAA hosting team fundraiser

The Awesome Arts Academy is hosting a UFC fundraiser at Tapley's Pub this Saturday, with the proceeds going towards the AAA competition and demo martial arts team. The team recently competed in the Western Canadian Championships, and will be attending other tournaments including nationals this year.

AAA will be hosting the evening's UFC match for a $10 cover charge at the door, and will be hosting events like a 50-50 draw, and a prize draw that includes a $100 gift certificate for Tapley's, a one-month unlimited pass at Awesome Arts Academy and more.

The UFC event is taking place in Montreal and will feature Canadian fighter Georges St-Pierre, who has a record of 22-2-0 and has held the title in his weight class since 2007. He was recently sidelined for 18 months with a ligament injury, and will have a tough time with challenger Carlos Condit.

The bill features several other matchups as well. Visit www.ufc.ca for details.

U13 girls top tournament

The Whistler Youth Soccer Club sent five teams to West Vancouver this past weekend to take part in their annual Remembrance Day tournament, with one of those teams — the U13 girls — winning gold in the gold-level competition.

The team had never competed at the gold level before, but decided to move up after winning the bronze level at a tournament on the North Shore in October.

The team eked out ties against teams from West Vancouver, Squamish and North Vancouver in the first three games. That put Whistler in a tie to reach the finals, which was decided by a shootout that Whistler won 3-1 with goalkeeper Paula Salazar making two big saves.

That put Whistler in the final against the North Shore Eagles. The Eagles scored first in the second half, and finally Hailey MacDonald was able to tie the game at 1-1 before the clock ran out. That created a second penalty shootout, which Whistler was able to win.

The team included Rena Nakajima, Aimee Soakardiman, Karly Peterson, Jacqueline Perroli, Paige McKenzie, Benita Peiffer, Hailey MacDonald, Kamryn Sharpe, Lacey Anderson, Leah Brownlie, Hannah Peatfield, Emma Marof, Hanna Marof, Nicole Boulagner and Paulina Salazar. Coaches were Philippe Melun and Lynda Kranjc.

The U13 Girls weren't the only team to find the podium.

The U11 Girls battled their way to a bronze after playing four games in six hours of rain and low temperatures. The U10 Girls didn't advance in their group.

The U11 Boys stepped up from silver to the gold for the tournament, but were unable to score in any of their games.

The U12 Boys won all three games in their division.
