With summers in the Sea to Sky corridor becoming increasingly packed with events, organizers of the Two Acre Shaker are confident they picked the right weekend for the fifth installment of their one-day music festival. The event will begin at noon on Aug. 17 and carry on until around 5 a.m. with a variety of bands and DJs, to be announced.
Pique picks three albums from Squamish Valley Music Festival bands to kick off the season
The days are getting longer, the summer sun is blazing down and music festival season will soon be upon us. The ever-expanding array of festivals kicks off in two weeks with the Sasquatch Festival (we won't count the springtime Coachella) just south of us across the border at the Gorge in Washington and carries on well into the fall with events around the world.
Squamish Valley Music Festival organizers announced the bulk of their eclectic lineup for the August festival at a concert launch party last week. With headliners ranging from rock mainstays Queens of the Stone Age to indie stalwarts Vampire Weekend to chart-topping hip hop act Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Erik Hoffman, VP of talent for Live Nation, says there's something on the roster for everyone.
Queens of the Stone Age, Vampire Weekend to headline
The Squamish Valley Music Festival revealed its 2013 lineup during a concert launch party at Vancouver's Commodore Ballroom on Friday. Headliners for the festival — which runs Aug. 9 and 10 — include rock mainstays Queens of the Stone Age, indie stalwarts Vampire Weekend and buzz hip hop act Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.
Pique looks back on the biggest entertainment stories of last year
This year Whistler (and Sea to Sky corridor) arts, culture and music news was dominated by numbers. It might sound boring (math, yuck) but those figures came in the form of funding (or a fight over funding), anniversaries and contest prizes.
Using dramatic colour and mixed media to explore their distinct journeys, three artists will have their work displayed in Circle the Heart, a new exhibit at Scotia Creek Gallery. "Works on display are charged with an emotional and spiritual vision and express ideas of personal journey and interconnectedness," the Whistler Arts Council explained in a release.
The festival formerly known as LIVE at Squamish has a new name and new dates. The two-day music festival, which has drawn acts like Weezer and Metric, will now take place on Aug. 9 and 10 as The Squamish Valley Music Festival.
