If youre one of the hundreds of people who supported the Single Track Off Road Cycling Club of B.C. (STORMBC) bottle drive last weekend, club founder and head coach Chris Colbeck would like to thank you.
The club took advantage of a rare weekend without a competition to collect more than 10,000 bottles and raised more than $1,400 for bike tools, jerseys, jackets and travelling expenses for trips to B.C. and Canada Cup races.
When they werent collecting and sorting bottles at the bottles depot, the more advanced riders were showing off their skills by wheelie-dropping off a five-foot bridge set up in the lot.
"It definitely helped to raise some awareness of the club in the Whistler," said Colbeck. "People were keen to watch the kids ride the trial obstacle and the kids got a lot of exposure out of it."
STORMBC would like to thank the all the riders who participated, especially team members Dom Genreau, Jeff Beatty, Brook Baker, Jason Klimock, Ryan Black and Kyle Treleaven who did most of the labour. It was a family affair as well, with the Bakers, Griffiths, Prochazkas, McArthurs and Treleavens donating time and vehicles to the massive effort. Tom Prochazka also built and donated the trial obstacle.
"I have to give special thanks to Nesters Market and Martha Heintzman for donating the cube van and for coming out on both days to get her hands dirty," says Colbeck.
Other thanks go out to Sophie and Eryn Doyle, Rob and James McSkimming, Mike Hawes, Shelley and Marilyn at the bottle depot, Renee and the girls at the liquor store, and everyone else who pitched in. Businesses to thank include Nesters, Heidis Helping Hands, Earls Restaurant, Dominos Pizza, at the Trattoria.
While the STORMBC team has already toured the province racing in B.C. Cup events, the club season launches in July with weekend cross-country and downhill camps for all ages and abilities. For more information or to sign up for a camp, call 905-Bike, email email@example.com , or mail in a registration form available at www.stormbc.com.
