The Whistler Arts Council has announced its Student Art Award recipients for 2005.
The awards were established in 1987 to recognize artistic achievement in the visual, literary, performing and media arts as demonstrated by graduating students from elementary and secondary schools in Whistler, Pemberton and Mount Currie.
In conjunction with the Student Art Awards, the Arts Council also awards annually a series of summer arts bursaries. The $250 bursaries are available to students in any grade from Myrtle Philip and Spring Creek Community Schools, Whistler Secondary School, Alta Lake School, Signal Hill Elementary School, Pemberton Secondary and Xit'olacw Community School attending a summer camp to further their studies in the visual, performing, literary or media arts. The bursaries are awarded judged on merit and can be directed towards tuition, accommodation and/or travel costs.
The Arts Council announced the call for nominations for this years student art awards and summer arts bursaries on March 17 and closed nominations on May 3.
