Summer season begins in Vancouver for Whistler pro boarders

On July 28 and 29 Molson Canada is launching a five-stop Molson Canadian Snow Jam tour in Vancouver, featuring a quarterpipe for snowboarders and skiers, and a vert ramp and street park for skateboarding, inline skating and BMX competitions.

More than $470,000 in prize money will be awarded to athletes over the course of the tour, including $60,000 in Vancouver. The size of the purse has drawn a distinguished international field of athletes to each competition, including some of the top Canadians.

From the Whistler area, the list of male snowboard athletes includes Kevin Sansalone, Guy Deschesne, Craig Ballantyne, Mikey Rencz, David Melancon, and Jamie Parker.

The female competitors are Annie Boulanger, Kim Dunn, Roberta Rodger, Kim Stacey, and Dominique Vallee.

The list of skiers includes David Crichton, Scott Hibbert, Jon Kozody, Jordan Monk, Mauro Nunez, Myles Ricketts, Matt Sterbenz, Toben Sutherland, Rex Thomas, and Andrew Woods.

In the skateboard vert competition, the list of athletes includes Rob "Sluggo" Boyce, Dave Campbell, Pierre-Luc Gagnon, Chris Steggles and Barry Walsh. In the street competition, confirmed riders include Josh Evin, Alex Gavin, Jeff Logan, Dave Priest and Barry Walsh.

The BMX competition has drawn some of the top riders in Canada, including Travis Fontaine, Jay Miron, Rob Sigaty, Jamie Merritt, and Dom Mach in the vert category; Jason Enns, John Heaton, Taj Mihelich, Miron and Sigaty in street; and Andrew Faris, Jamie McIntosh and Dan Rigby in flatland.

From the world of inline skating, Snow Jam is bringing Nate Gagnon, Corey Lowe, Mike Lukewich, Jay Ostby, and Brian Prodan for the vert ramp, and Sam Bawden, Wesley Change, Richie Eisler, Lowe and Lukewich for the street.

In addition to the regular competition, each discipline will feature a big hit competition.

Tickets to the two-day event are $9.93 plus service charges in advance from TicketMaster, or $20 at the gate.
