The finest funnies find Whistler the place to be

What: Best of Canadian Stand-Up

Where: MY Place

When: Friday & Saturday, Aug. 22 & 23

Some powers that be on the salubrious international stand-up comedy circuit have been eyeing Whistler for some time, and now it seems they’ve finally got it by the humorous horns with a two night comedy special at MY Place next weekend.

The event, which organizers hope will become a regular face in Whistler, is being organized by Comedy Spot Productions, who did a similar show in Vancouver at the Vogue Theatre as part of the support for the 2010 Olympic bid.

The comic collective knew Whistler was the next step in their grand plan for world recognition of Canadian comedians.

"We want to introduce ourselves to Whistler and build a relationship so we can come back regularly with world class entertainment for your world class community," said event organizer Kelly Phelan.

"There are many top touring stand-up comedians in this country that we believe are the best in the business. Our hope for this show is to tour it across the country and along the way place some of those comedians in Whistler’s international spotlight."

The four comedians chosen for the MY Place weekend all have numerous years of professional performing under their belts, garnering many TV and film credits and awards for their jokes.

The Best of Canadian Stand-Up show promises to be different from most standard comedy nights with its serving of four "headliners", as opposed to just one. There will also be a few special guests, as yet unannounced, ensuring a lot of hilarity for your entertainment dollar.

Tickets to the Comedy Show are $25 from the MY Place box office; phone 604-935-8418 or Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m.
