Hell is back Montreal psychobilly rockers The Brains by the Dubh Linn Gate.

Got to love a band where the press release includes four-letter curse words that basically mean they don't mess around.

Montreal's The Brains is that band, further evidence that "there's still plenty of piss, vinegar and venom coursing through the veins of psychobilly," according to one music magazine.

The Brains is part of an upcoming ska night at the Dubh Linn Gate pub; they perform with Tijuana-Montreal ska-punkers Los Kung Fu Monkeys on Thursday, Nov. 12, at 9 p.m. Admission is free.

The Brains is no stranger to Whistler, says singer Rene D La Muerte, who adds that they can't wait to play here again.

They are currently on a 21-city tour in support of their seventh album, Out in the Dark. On top of this, they've had a busy year, supporting Reverend Horton Heat and Nekromantix and went to Europe — twice. In fact, they sold out two headlining shows in Russia.

"This tour is awesome so far," says D La Muerte, "I'm very happy to be back to Whistler. I have always had a great time there. The crowd knows how to party and we feed on that energy to make a kick-ass show."

The Brains have been together for 13 years, unsurprisingly they were founded on Halloween night — also D La Muerte's birthday.

Out in the Dark was recorded exactly a year ago, over two weeks around Halloween.

"We were able to capture the live energy and put it to tape with tight production; I honestly love this album," says D La Muerte.

"Colin (The Dead, who plays stand-up bass) wrote all the lyrics and I wrote all the music and arrangements."

When asked, he says he has no favourite track.

"Seriously. All of these songs have their own charm. It's impossible to pick," he says.

His young daughter Lily performed in the scary video for the title track, "Out in the Dark." She got to play opposite a killer goat monster.

"She's just amazing," says an obviously proud dad. "She's definitely a future big actress, Phil (Pinard) our drummer, who produced the video for 'Out in the Dark,' decided that Lily should be the star and I couldn't be happier.

"This whole album is a work of everyone in the band or family, the cover art is made by Lily's mom, Roxy Peroxyde, so it's all connected between the family."
