Tips for Faith-ful fans

With so much grandeur around, Whistlerites are used to thinking big.

Who: Faith Hill

Where: Base II, Blackcomb Mountain

When: Saturday, Aug. 7

Tickets: $65/$86/$118

However, with its 15,000-crowd capacity and mountainside venue this weekend’s Faith Hill concert is a bit bigger than the average Whistler music event.

The concert takes place outdoors at Base II on Blackcomb Mountain, rain or shine. Limited parking in the upper lots (lots 6, 7 and 8) will be available for $10 per car, otherwise, showgoers can park for free in the day lots and upload to the concert site via either the Excalibur Gondola in Whistler Village or the Magic Chair in Blackcomb Village. WAVE will also run buses to and from the concert site.

Tickets are available in advance through TicketMaster and will also be available at the gate for purchase using cash or credit cards only.

Tier one "gold" tickets receive general admission seating with the closest proximity to the stage. Tier two "silver" and tier three "bronze" tickets require concertgoers to bring their own seating. Leg-less beach chairs and blankets are recommended.

The show’s gates open officially at 4:30 p.m. Barbecue pits and beer gardens will be on site and concertgoers will be forbidden to bring their own coolers or alcohol into the venue. Cameras are also forbidden.

There will be pre-concert entertainment hosted by local legend Guitar Doug featuring Vancouver solo artists Rae Armour, a veteran roots-folk singer making her Whistler debut, and Melanie Dekker, a jazzy pop singer seen regularly at local venues the Mallard Lounge and the Bearfoot Bistro.

Cape Breton fiddler Natalie MacMaster and her band take the stage at 7:30 p.m. to perform the opening set.

And the lady of the evening – country-pop superstar Faith Hill – takes the stage at 8:45 p.m.

The show will proceed rain or shine.
