Tourism Whistler to manage Whistler Visitor Centre

Tourism Whistler announced last week that it has assumed management of the Whistler Visitor Centre, previously operated by the Whistler Chamber of Commerce, effective May 16.

Tourism Whistler announced last week that it has assumed management of the Whistler Visitor Centre, previously operated by the Whistler Chamber of Commerce, effective May 16.

In August of 2005, the Whistler Chamber of Commerce requested that Tourism Whistler operate the Whistler Visitor Centre during a period of management transition at the Chamber. Over the past nine months, Tourism Whistler has evaluated the associated strategic and operational opportunities, and with the support of the board of directors of both the Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Whistler, has agreed to assume permanent management of the centre.

"We look forward to working together with the team of very capable staff at the Whistler Visitor Centre to provide guests with the highest possible level of service to meet all their in-resort needs," said Diane Mombourquette, Vice President of Finance and Operations for Tourism Whistler. "This will also allow us to have increased interaction and connection directly with our visitors."

Managing the Whistler Visitor Centre fits closely with Tourism Whistler's commitment to enhance guest experience and the execution of visitor services initiatives identified in the 2006 Business Plan. Customer information and feedback collected from guests at the centre will further build Tourism Whistler's customer database and support its ongoing research efforts – ultimately helping to drive room nights to the resort.

This new responsibility is in addition to Tourism Whistler's current management of the Whistler Activity and Information Centre, and supports the organization's broader mandate as the marketing and sales organization representing Whistler. Members of both the Whistler Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Whistler will be represented in the usual manner through the two centres. No staffing changes are planned as a result of this announcement and the services, hours and other operations at both facilities are expected to remain the same. The staff from the Whistler Visitor Centre will report directly to Dave Clark, Manager, Visitor Services for Tourism Whistler.

Whistler Chamber of Commerce President, Louise Lundy, is pleased to see such a smooth transition. "We believe that the operations of the Whistler Visitor Centre is much better aligned with the mandate of Tourism Whistler, and we look forward to continuing to collaborate on resort-wide initiatives aimed at securing a bright business future for Whistler," said Lundy.
