If you are planning to travel to any developing country outside of Canada, U.S.A., Australia and New Zealand, you should go to a travel clinic or your doctor for travel advice. To ensure that vaccinations have time to become effective, it is important to contact your heath unit 6-8 weeks before you leave. Immunizations vary according to the places you travel, your length of stay and type of travel and accommodation. There is a charge for most travel immunizations. Infants and children under seven years of age are at higher risk for illness and disease from travel to tropical areas. They have special needs for the prevention of these diseases. If you have a record of your immunizations, bring it to the travel clinic, and keep it with your passport while travelling. Consultations and recommendations should include: o Appropriate Vaccinations o Ways to reduce risk of illness while travelling o Medications for prevention of illness while travelling Our aim is to improve you defences and boost your immunity so that you can enjoy travel in good health. Travel clinic hours are every Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. by appointment only at the Coast Garibaldi Health Unit in the Whistler Health Care Centre.
