A man who was driving without a license last week told police he fell asleep at the wheel before crashing into a tree near Pemberton and injuring the other occupants of the vehicle.

On April 8 at 7:15 a.m., Pemberton RCMP was called out to the scene of an accident at the 78-kilometre mark of the In-SHUCK-ch Forest Service Road. A witness who arrived on the scene hours before and administered first aid told the officer that the driver and all three passengers appeared to be intoxicated following the crash. Hours later, the driver told police he had been drinking the night before and was driving back to Tipella, B.C. when he fell asleep and slammed into the tree. The passengers said they couldn't remember what happened. None of the occupants were wearing seatbelts and suffered relatively minor injuries.

Because several hours had passed since the accident, police did not lay drunk-driving charges, but the driver was issued a ticket for operating a vehicle without a license and driving without consideration, police said. He was also issued a driving prohibition.

Sink-pissing, pizza-eating Vancouver man sucker-punches doorman, police say

A Vancouver man is facing assault charges after he reportedly punched a bouncer last week - but not before he peed in the sink and chowed down on a slice of pizza.

In the early hours of April 6, staff at a village nightclub told police they kicked out the 20-year-old after he was found urinating in the sink.

We'll let R. Const. Steve LeClair take it from here: "(The suspect) left without incident, came back with a piece of pizza, went to walk in, was stopped from entering by the doorman, pretended to walk away and then, completely unprovoked, turned around and punched the doorman in the nose.

"The doorman didn't even see it coming."

Police said the man exhibited numerous signs of intoxication and was seen crying in his cell following his arrest.

Police looking to identify shoplifters

Whistler police are seeking the public's help in locating a pair of women who allegedly stole sunglasses from a village store last month.

On March 22, security reported the theft of a pair of Electric brand glasses, valued at $200. Two females were spotted in the store trying on hats and glasses before one asked for the security tag to be removed for a better fit. Then, the suspect walked near the scanners to confirm the tag was inactivated, police said. After paying for another pair of glasses and a hat, the pair walked out.

One suspect is described as Caucasian, in her mid-twenties, 5-9, with a slim build, blonde hair, and wearing a black jacket and grey pants.

The other suspect was described with identical features as her friend, except wearing a grey jacket, black pants and black shoes.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Whistler RCMP or Sea to Sky Crime Stoppers.

Pemberton police cracking down on distracted driving

Pemberton RCMP will no longer issue warnings to anyone caught using a mobile device while driving, police said.

After handing out approximately 35 distracted driving tickets in the past month, LeClair said police would be "stepping up" enforcement.

A first-time distracted driving offence will net you a $543 fine in B.C.
