Valentine's Day isn't just for lovers, anymore. That's right, there are plenty of parties and activities planned for both sweethearts and their single friends in the Sea to Sky corridor this year. And Valentine's Day objectors, have no fear: it's not all flowers, chocolates, wine and romantic dinners for two. Read on for some Valentine's Day inspiration:

James Bondage - Saturday, Feb. 12, 10 p.m., $40

The sixth annual James Bondage event is being held at the Howe Sound Inn & Brewpub just a few days before Valentine's Day, and this year, organizers have decided to take partygoers to the big top, so to speak, with a circus-themed soiree.

Attendees can expect a true sensory experience, including performance art, amazing decor, and top-notch DJs providing the soundtrack in three themed rooms of circus-themed opulence. The goal of this event is to create a judgment-free space that is conducive to artistic expression, and to raise money for local non-profit groups in the process (to date, James Bondage parties have raised $25,000 for the Howe Sound Women's Centre, $10,000 for public art installations, $10,000 for local mountain bike trails, and $3,000 for Humanity Village).

A fetish dress code is strictly enforced at this party (read: PVC, leather, rubber, bondage tape, vinyl, tuxedo, chaps, costume, uniform, kilt, body paint, lingerie, saran wrap, and the like). If you don't come properly attired, you can strip down to your undies, wear a black garbage bag or leave and come back in "appropriate attire." To encourage people to enjoy the evening without any inhibitions, no cameras are allowed inside the party. Instead, guests can feel free to visit their professional photo booth set-up, where they can have images directly emailed to them.

As of Monday morning, tickets were selling quickly, so anyone interested in attending should get their tickets quickly! They're available in Squamish at Trinity Romance and Howe Sound Brew Pub, Evolution in Whistler or in Vancouver at JuJu Salon or Scout Boutique on Main.

Valentine's Pajama Party - Monday, Feb. 14, 8:30 p.m., $15 to $20

Slip into your favourite bedtime attire, be it sexy or just straight-up cozy, and head out to the GLC to get on down to some seriously badass beats, courtesy of DJ Neighbor, who'll be playing electric guitar and keyboard, as well, during this hybrid DJ/live set. He'll be joined be MC Crystal Precious, aka "The Queen of Sass & Mistress of Ceremonies," and Little Miss Risk (formerly of Big John Bates and the Voodoo Dolls), a classically trained pointe ballerina who will wow the crowds by shooting sparks off of her metal bikini using a heavy-duty mechanics grinder. Throw in the Whistler Go Go girls and some champagne, and you have a pretty kick-ass pajama party.

The first 50 tickets are just $15, and after that, they go up to $20. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. and the show starts at 9:30 p.m.

The Troutsmen's Ball - Monday, Feb. 14, 9 p.m., $20

It's no big secret that the men of the Troutsmen International Club of Leisure like to have a good time - they're the community group responsible for organizing a wide range of popular events and parties, like The Cheeseburger Gala, Whistler Street Hockey Tournament and Lawn Leisure Day. Now, they're getting ready to have a ball (no, literally, they're hosting a ball) at Maxx Fish on every lovers' favourite day: Valentine's Day.

"Last year, we did one just prior to the Olympics, like a day before, for Whistler Adaptive, so we just like doing one in February and we just started thinking, 'Well, if we do it Valentine's Day, then we'll get people there because there never usually is a good party on Valentine's Day!'" explained Rich Glass, a member of Troutsmen.

They also decided to make this party a formal one, because Whistler residents are always looking for a good excuse to bust out those seldom-worn dress clothes.

And while these guys clearly like to party, they also like to help out worthy local groups, like the Whistler Adaptive Sports Program.

This year, the party will feature Rob Baanks Rich-A and newcomer "Cripple Wheel Pete" on the decks.

"Apparently, he's really good and everyone is really stoked on him. He contacted us because he's good friends with Mat the Alien and he's recently moved to Saskatchewan to Whistler and he recently went up the mountain with Whistler Adaptive."

&Entertainment will be providing lights for the show, and Shits 'n Giggles is handling décor, and attendees can enjoy a few of the 1,000 mini cheeseburgers being dished up and enter into a draw for some great prizes, as well.

"It's really good how everyone has kind of come together for this."

Tickets are $20 through Sushi Village or your friendly neighbourhood Troutsmen, with all proceeds going to support WASP.
