Vancouver Whistler bid adopts code of conduct, names ethics committee, appoints ethics commissioner

The Vancouver Whistler 2010 Bid Corporation has taken steps to ensure that its bid for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games will be developed in the most ethical and forthright manner possible by adopting an all-encompassing code of conduct.

The Vancouver Whistler 2010 Bid Corporation has taken steps to ensure that its bid for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games will be developed in the most ethical and forthright manner possible by adopting an all-encompassing code of conduct.

"The Bid Corporation has committed that it will deliver the winning bid for the 2010 Games by engaging in relationships that are ethical and transparent, and will withstand the highest degree of public scrutiny," said Marion Lay, chair of the Bid Corporation. "We want to ensure public confidence both in the integrity of the Corporation, and how we go about our business."

In addition to its own code of conduct, the Bid Corporation must abide by the Olympic Charter, the International Olympic Committee Code of Ethics, the Candidature Acceptance Procedures established by the IOC and all other rules, instructions and conditions that may be established in the future.

The Bid Corporation has named the following board members to its Ethics Committee:

Don Rosenbloom, Partner, Rosenbloom & Aldridge (Committee Chair)

Peter Armstrong, President and CEO, Great Canadian Railtour Company Ltd.

Patricia Bowles, Executive Vice President, TELUS

Iona Campagnolo, Chair, Fraser Basin Council

Bill McKerlich, Education Consultant

Bid Corporation corporate secretary Dorothy Byrne, QC is staff resource to the committee, and is responsible for the administration and monitoring of the code of conduct.

"I am also pleased to announce the appointment of former British Columbia Supreme Court judge, the Honourable Stuart Leggatt, to the position of Ethics Commissioner for the Bid," said Lay. "We are indeed fortunate to have someone of Mr. Leggatt’s stature and considerable experience to provide the corporation with advice and guidance as we move forward."
