Canadian music icon Valdy and country musician Gary Fjellgaard team up for an evening of "western roots music" next week, including songs from their album Contenders .

Since the ’60s, Valdy has been a well known Canadian performer in the world of folk music, with occasional segues into rock and pop. He has won two Junos and has produced 13 albums, including Smorgasbord (1997) and this year’s Contenders .

Valdy is perhaps most famous for his contribution to children’s entertainment, with songs like Livin’ In a Kid’s World from the album Valdy’s Kid’s Records.

Fjellgaard adds country music flavourings to the Contenders album. His songs tell stories of the human spirit. His single Riding on the Wind, from the album Time and Innocence, won Single of the Year at the County Music Association awards in 1985. His most recent album is Believe in Forever , released in 1994.

The western roots music of Valdy and Fjellgaard combines warmth and tales of the spirit of the West. Both singers are based in the Gulf Islands, and have worked closely with record label Salt Spring Music.

Tickets for the show are $20 for adults, $10 for students. For information call Millennium Place box office at 604-935-8410.
