"Chakras are the energy centres of the body. Thats the easiest way to describe it until the actual show. We want the night to be a little bit educational too," explains Farfalla owner Emanuela Bertoia-Laverty.
Unlike past shows, this year will include more choreography on the stage. Bertoia-Laverty enlisted the talents of local choreographer Karen Arnold to help express the emotions associated with the chakra points of the body.
"It didnt quite work to have just clothes and hair. We needed a little different twist to help tie the theme together," Bertoia-Laverty says.
A large team of community volunteers will be on hand again this year, from the models, to Farfalla stylists, to local businesses. Bertoia-Laverty was pleased that so many models could put in the time for this years show. A solid commitment was required due to the rehearsals needed for the detailed movement on stage.
The same shops from last year will be featured on the runway: McCoos and McCoos 2, Blue Balls Boutique, Amos and Andies, Fibre Options and Lotus Art Supply.
"Every year I stick with the same local sponsors and try to stay away from corporate companies," says Bertoia-Laverty. Two new businesses did join the line-up this year, Basic Intimates from Squamish and Seventh Season Apparel, a small business run by a group of Whistler women out of their home.
"Theyre starting to make a name for themselves. They do a lot of active wear. Its nice to help expose them," adds Bertoia-Laverty.
Local DJs too are volunteering their time and talents. DJ Chris Viner will set the mood during the pre-show activities, which include a silent auction and tarot card readings. DJ Kori K will kick out the tunes to create the chakra environment on the runway.
The Farfalla crew are hoping to exceed the $4,500 raised last year for children living with HIV/AIDS.
