Voleurz takes its second Intersection at Whistler's Telus Festival

Production team now undefeated champions after competition’s second year

It's been said that Intersection was practically made for production and clothing company Voleurz. Now, this would certainly seem to be the case.

It took the $15,000 top prize for the second year in a row, beating out five other teams at a sold out gala at the Whistler Conference Centre on Wednesday night.

Director Darren Rayner said this year's win is even sweeter than the last.

"It's easy to win the first contest but it's much harder to hold the title," he said. "Everyone's against you if you hold the title. They want to surpass you and do better."

The action-sport filmmaker's competition - the newest addition to TWSSF - has quickly won favour among filmmakers and the audience alike.

"Intersection is the best competition here at WSSF, as far as I'm concerned," Voleurz co-producer Mason Mashon told the crowd after they'd been announced as the winners.

Each team was given $1,000 and had one week to shoot and edit their film. Both skiers and snowboarders had to be included and at least one minute of the film had to be shot on location at Whistler Blackcomb - 30 seconds spent in the terrain park and 30 seconds anywhere inbounds. Exactly 73 per cent of footage had to take place on snow.

The other five teams included NuuLife Cinema, Capri Studios, Heart Films, Family Tree and Footy Fiend (who turned their film in late and were therefore not eligible for the prize).

Rayner said the other films were "amazing" adding that he felt he had no hopes of taking the $15,000 home.

But it was Voleurz's film, a spoof Sherpas Cinemas' Art of Flight that was clearly the fan favourite, based on the hollers and cheers when it finished. Another swell of applause erupted when the winners were announced.

Rayner said they're going to spend "about half" the money on paying for the Intersection film and put the rest toward their full-length ski film that's slated for release in September.
