Hard as it may be to believe, it's September.

With snow on the way, skiers and snowboarders can prepare for the 2016-17 season at Whistler Blackcomb (WB) by snagging an early-bird season pass before Oct. 10. The early-bird rate gives the enthusiasts a $150 discount off the cost of a regular pass. The adult unlimited pass, for those aged 19 to 64, is available for $1,499.

The advance buyers also have a 50-per-cent downpayment option where they can pay half of the cost before Oct. 10 and the other half by Jan. 23. An administration fee of $25 will apply.

WB is also set to remain part of the Mountain Collective for the upcoming season, so its season pass holders will still have discounted access to several resorts across North America and two in Australia and New Zealand. Telluride and Revelstoke Mountain Resort have been added to the docket this year, bringing the total of participating resorts to 13.

"The addition of Revelstoke Mountain Resort to the Mountain Collective is big news for our 2016-17 Unlimited Season Passholders," WB senior vice-president of marketing and sales Stuart Rempel said in a release. "Revelstoke is known for big snow and big terrain, something our passholders have grown well accustomed to here in Whistler. Having another Mountain Collective resort within a seven-hour drive is certainly a fantastic perk for our Unlimited Passholders, especially with an offer of 50-per-cent off lift tickets."

Those who purchase an early-bird pass are also eligible for three Bring-A-Friend tickets for $209, as well as purchasing a $500 WB gift card for $399.

For more information on the offers, visit the WB website at www.whistlerblackcomb.com.

Whistler 50 to celebrate Oktoberfest

This year's Whistler 50 will have a bit of a new flavour at the finish line.

The race, slated for Oct. 15, will feature an Oktoberfest-themed party beginning at 2 p.m. and running until 7 p.m.

The top finishers in both the relay and ultra events will be recognized at the finish-line party.

Whistler Cooks will provide the grub — a smokie with sauerkraut or falafel with hummus — for finishers and volunteers. Coast Mountain Brewing will be pouring suds for the competitors to celebrate as well.

The 50-mile (80-kilometre) race welcomes solo runners as well as teams of two, four or eight.

As of Aug. 26, 70 teams and 45 solo runners had registered.

In 2015, roughly 1,200 people took part while organizers raised $6,000 for Sea to Sky food banks.

Those interested in registering can do so at www.bcathletics.org/Whistler50RelayUltra. The cost for a solo runner is $100, while relay teams are charged $190 (two), $360 (four) or $680 (eight). The prices increase on Sept. 26.
