A Whistler Blackcomb (WB) employee was injured on the job last weekend after falling from a chair on Blackcomb Mountain.

According to a spokesperson, the male Operations department employee fell from the Catskinner Chair at approximately 1 p.m. last Sunday, Jan. 24 while carrying equipment that included several event flags. The restraining bar was not down at the time.

“One of the flag poles slid from his grip and hit a lift tower, which pulled him forward and out of the chair,” explained PR coordinator Sarah Morden in an email. “Whistler Blackcomb would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to use the restraining bar while riding the chairlifts.”

The employee fell roughly 9.5 metres and has been treated for injuries that include a broken arm, bruised lung and fractured vertebrae. He is expected to make a full recovery, WB said.

WorkSafe BC is currently investigating. Morden said the resort will cooperate with any possible recommendations that come out of the investigation.
