The Whistler Gymnastics Club wrapped up its competitive season with a strong showing at the annual Ogopogo Invitational in Kelowna.
In Provincial 1 Argo, Group A, Whistler's Cayley Lamont placed third all around out of 20 athletes, placing first on vault, third on the floor, sixth on the bars and 12 th on the beam. In the same category, Leah Brownlie was 13 th , tying for fourth on the beam. Charlie Jarratt's best result was a sixth place finish on the beam, while Rorry Ross-Kelly tied for fifth on the beam but placed two spots back of Jarratt.
In Group B, Hannah Peatfield and Gabby Flynn were second and third all around out of 22 athletes. Peatfield tied for first on the vault, third on the floor, sixth on the bars and eighth on the beam. Flynn earned a silver medal on the floor, tied for fourth on the bars and beam, and was ninth on the vault. Also competing in the category were Niki Marriott, Gigi Kranjc and Nicole Boulanger. Marriott's best result was an eighth place finish on the vault, while Kranjc's best results were on vault and floor. Boulanger placed 10 th on the beam.
In Group C, the top Whistler athlete was Jennifer Lafreiere in 15 th , with a 10 th place finish. Erin Wilson, Emily Sargent and Lauren Wentzel had their best results on the bars, floor and floor/vault, respectively.
In Provincial 1 Tyro, Whistler's Jamie Gormley placed seventh all around out of 33 gymnasts, with a bronze medal on the floor, a ninth place finish on vault and a 10 th place finish on the beam. Caitlin MacConnachie was fifth on the bars and eighth on the beam, but dropped back to 13 th with some bad luck on the vault and floor.
In Provincial 2 Tyro Group A, Carly Mann placed eighth all around out of 25 athletes, winning gold on the vault, tying for fourth on bars and placing eighth on the beam. Keeley Wentzel was one spot back in ninth on the beam, as well as a silver medal on the bars, a seventh place finish on the floor and a 10 th place finish on the vault.
Jessie Budge was 11 th all around, placing sixth on the floor, tying for eighth on the bars and placing 10 th on the floor.
Ellie Krasny's best result was 12 th on the beam, and Christina Saldat was ninth on the bars.
In Group B, Katarina Kranjc placed eighth on the vault and the bars, and placed 13 th on the floor, but was bumped back by a low score on the beam.
In Provincial Level 2 Novice, Ali Marriott placed 13 th all around, tying for seventh on the bars.
Nicola Halliwell, competing in Provincial Level 3 Open, placed a solid fifth all around, with a sixth place finish on the floor, and seventh place finishes on both the vault and bars, as well as an eighth place finish on the beam.
Rebecca Flynn, recovering from an injury, was sixth all around and managed a silver on the vault, as well as an eighth place finish on the floor and 10 th place finishes on both the bars and the beam.
The Whistler Gymnastics Club wraps up this session in late June but is hosting their annual year-end show this Sunday, June 13. This event takes places from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Spring Creek Community School, with displays from all ages and programs.
The club is also taking registration for its summer programs, including Active Start programs for kids aged two to fifth, trampoline classes for kids aged seven to 12, competitive day camps for kids already with a program, and Gymnastics For All camps for kids aged six and up.
