Whistler high school riders best in province

Three riders capture overall championships

The Whistler Secondary Storm high school mountain bike team returned from the high school championships in Salmon Arm with a lot more than bragging rights, with no fewer than three riders capturing overall championships.

Mahon Lamont placed first out of 26 racers in the Juvenile Male (Grade 9) race, with teammate Felix Burke in fourth, Jack Iles in fifth, Matthew Wentzel in sixth, Edi Shreyer in eighth, Ben Flynn in 10th, Spencer White in 13th, Evan Ford in 15th and David Lepine in 21st.

Austin Reith placed first out of 22 riders in Bantam Boys (Grade 8), with Max Peiffer in fourth and Conrad Murdoch in 10th.

Bobbi Douglas was first out of five racers in Bantam Girls.

Nicki Murdoch was third out of 10 riders in the Senior Females (Grade 11 and 12) category.

Tristan Underhill and Jacob Lepine were 10th and 15th in Senior Males.

Robert Bastien was 17th out of 17 riders in Grade 10 after taking a wrong turn on the course.

While Whistler riders have participated in the provincials before several times, this is really the team's second official season with team members heading to all five North Shore High School Mountain Bike League events. It's also the most successful year for the team, which finished first in the league point standings.
