Whistler residents are being invited to review some of the findings of the ongoing Recreation and Lesiure Master Plan process, a 10-year plan that will determine the resort's priorities for future investment.

The feedback touched on every aspect of leisure and recreation, including sports fields, general parks and beaches, dog walks and parks, the skateboard park, tennis courts, concession and commercial operations, Valley Trail development, off-road trails for biking and hiking, winter trails for skiing and snowshoeing, plus all of the activities that take place on lakes and rivers, and in municipal facilities.

It also looked at other activities like road cycling, rocking climbing and the ongoing bid to create a BMX facility.

"This comprehensive summary of community and stakeholder input will help to inform the development of the Recreation and Leisure Master Plan," said Mayor Nancy Wilhelm-Morden. "The level of engagement in this process demonstrates both the community's value of our recreation assets, and the RMOW's commitment to protecting our parks and recreation system and strategically planning for the future."

The summary of engagement and draft findings includes over 130 items. Examples include creating additional off-leash areas for dogs spread out across the resort, creating a paved running track suitable for wheelchairs in Cheakamus Crossing, and possibly a parkour track with fitness features as well, upgrading fields for soccer and baseball while potentially creating an artificial turf field, adding a second regulation field to Whistler Secondary, upgrading and adding to the Whistler Skateboard Park and more.

The full report of draft findings is available by PDF on the municipal website at whistler.ca/recmasterplan under the heading "Community Engagement."
