A man was tackled to the ground and the knife he was wielding taken away by diners at the restaurant he was eating at on April 22 following a verbal argument with another male.

When police arrived they found the suspect restrained on the ground and learned that the man had been arguing with another guest in the crowded eatery.

The two men were initially separated by other guests, but then the, "suspect ran into the kitchen of the restaurant and grabbed a 12-inch chef's knife off a counter and went to run out with the knife," explained S/Sgt. Jolaine Percival, Acting OIC Sea to Sky RCMP in a release.

"Restaurant staff saw the male grab the knife, and try to leave, and yelled 'knife.'"

The suspect was arrested by police and taken to the Whistler RCMP detachment.

A subsequent search revealed that the male was in possession of .59 grams of suspected cocaine and 1.68 grams of suspected MDMA.

Police also found that the male was bound by an Undertaking from a previous incident with a condition not to possess any weapons.

Officers obtained numerous witness statements and are recommending charges of: assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, theft under $5,000, two counts of possessing a controlled substance, and failure to comply with an Undertaking.

The suspect, a 29-year-old Agassiz male, was remanded into custody and was to appear in court this week.

COCAINE POSSESSION

Officers were on foot patrol in Whistler Village on April, 22 at1:15 a.m., when they noticed three people behind a nightclub in an area well known to police for drug trafficking and consumption.

"An officer observed a male hold his phone up for another male who produced a rolled up five dollar bill and snorted cocaine off of the phone and then passed it to a female," explained Percival.

The officers identified themselves and arrested the group for alleged possession of a controlled substance and seized the phone with the remaining line of suspected cocaine on it.

A search revealed that the female and one of the males had more cocaine in their possession. All three - two 24-year-old Delta males and a 22-year-old Delta female - were subsequently released with a court date of June 21, 2017.

BREAK AND ENTER

On April 22, at 1:33 a.m., staff at a Whistler hotel phoned the RCMP to report that a guest reported that a male had broken into her hotel room.

"The guest observed the male in her room when she tried to re-enter it," said S/Sgt Percivla in a release.

The victim described the male as Caucasian, 168 centimetres (5'6") to 173 centimetres (5'8") and 77 to 82 kilograms, (170-180 lbs). He was wearing khaki pants and a navy blue hoodie.

Police attended but were unable to locate anyone matching the description. However, there were signs of forced entry to the hotel room. Though nothing was stolen, the suspect had rummaged through the victim's belongings.

Police interviewed several witnesses, had the scene fingerprinted, and utilized a police dog in an attempt to track the suspect. Fingerprint evidence was located and will be submitted for further analysis.
