Whistler riders on Action Quest in Summerland

More than a dozen Whistler cyclists took part in the Action Quest 2003 B.C. Cup event last weekend at Summerland, participating in cross country, downhill and four-cross events.

More than a dozen Whistler cyclists took part in the Action Quest 2003 B.C. Cup event last weekend at Summerland, participating in cross country, downhill and four-cross events.

In the Under 15 men’s category, Brandon Semenuk finished fifth with a time of 1:22:01, 8:30 behind the leader.

James "Crunch" Crowe, the reigning national and provincial champion, finished second among the Under 17 Expert Men, just 1:38 off the lead.

Brook Baker was third in the Junior/Under 17 Expert Women’s group, 9:54 off the pace.

Jodie Hopkins was sixth among Senior Sport Women, 15:47 off the lead.

Joanna Harrington finished second among the Senior Expert Women, just 1:03 off the lead in a very close race.

Tyler West, racing with the Elite Men for the first time this year, finished fourth out of a field of 25 veteran riders, 10:25 off the lead time. Ryan Watts was 15 th and Trevor Hopkins was 17 th in the category.

Angela Teng was second in the women’s Elite category out of 17 riders, eight minutes off the lead. Jen Keefer was 12 th .

Ian Lowe won the Senior Expert Men’s category by better than three minutes.

Lloyd Thomas was 10 th among 30 riders in the Master 30 to 39 Expert men’s race.

Eric Crowe was tops among the Master 40 and Over Expert Men, taking the win with a comfortable gap of three minutes.

Ronni Lister finished third in the Master 30 and Over Expert Women, 5:26 back of the leader.

Meredith Armstrong was first in the Citizen Women’s 40 km race with a time of 3:20:49.

In the downhill race, the second B.C. Cup event of the season with more than 240 participants, Whistler’s Chad Onyschuk finished seventh among the Elite Men, 5.29 seconds back of the lead. Chris Dewar was ninth, Dave Burch 11 th , and Tyler Morland 22 nd .

Claire Buchar was third among the Elite Women.

Brook Baker, racing alone in the Junior Expert Women, finished with a time of 5:18, which would have been good enough for fifth in the Elite category, and was faster than any women, and many men, in the Sport, Expert and Masters groups.
