With four medals to their credit and special recognition from the judges, the Whistler Skating Club is flying high after attending the annual Autumn Leaves Freeskate Competition in Kamloops this past weekend.

"Whistler skaters were recognized not only for their jumping skills, but also for their artistry and technical skating skills," said WSC spokesperson Susan Shrimpton, who gave a lot of the credit to the coaching of Dominic Turgeon.

Broderick Thompson took the gold medal in the Pre-Juvenile Men. Hilary Iles won the silver medal in the Junior Bronze Ladies. Verena Facundo won the bronze in the Junior Bronze Ladies, while Melissa Smith won for the Senior Bronze Ladies.

Other skaters with the team includes Annelise Hutchison and Marielle Thompson in the Junior Bronze Ladies, Georgia Baker in the Pre-Preliminary Ladies, and Samantha Shrimpton in the Pre-Juvenile Ladies.

For many of the skaters the competition was their last test before the BMO Sectional Competition in Prince George Nov. 9 to 13.
