The Whistler Mountain Ski Club hosted the first technical races of the season last weekend, with K1 (age 11 and 12), K2 (aged 13 and 14) and J1 (age 15 and 16) racers taking part in giant slalom and slalom races.
The WMSC all but swept the events in the K2 category, earning all the medals except for two and dominating the top 10.
In the first giant slalom run on Saturday, Emma King, Kelly Steeves and Rae Swette were first through third on the women's side, with teammates Charley Field, Elianne Taillefer, Celeste Pomerantz, Rachel Vander Veen, Alexandra Perry and Emma Swaffield rounding out the top 10.
Things were mostly the same in the second GS with Charley Field first, Kelly Steeves second and Rae Swette third. Emma King moved back to fourth, with teammates Elianne Taileffer, Celeste Pomeranz and Alexandra Perry rounding out the top 10.
On the boys' side, Brodie Seger took the first race, followed by teammates Blake Ramsden and Logan Pehota. Also in the top 10 were Marc Leroux, Dalton Pehota, Kyle Yates, Jack Iles, Sloan Sainas and Cameron Alexander.
Seger was on top once again in the second race, with Austin Llewellyn of Grouse Mountain snapping up the silver medal ahead of Marc Leroux. Also in the top 10 were Ben Bethune, Jack Iles, Logan Pehota, Charlie Renzoni and Jake Allison.
In the slalom on Sunday, Emma King reclaimed the top spot with Rae Swette moving up a spot and Carley Field in third. Also in the top 10 were Kelly Steeves, Victoria Konantz, Elianne Taillefer, Rachel Vander Veen and Elizabeth Kepl.
Blake Ramsden won the boys event, followed by Austin Llewellyn of Grouse and the WMSC's Logan Pehota. Also in the top 10 were Charlie Renzoni, Ben Bethune, Kyle Yates and Sloan Sainas.
There was only one slalom on Sunday instead of two because of the heavy snow and weather conditions. As it was, skiers actually took longer to race the slalom course than the GS the previous day.
In the K1 category, Siobhan Finan of the WMSC took the gold medal ahead of skiers from Grouse and Mt. Seymour.
Stefanie Fleckenstein and Mikayla Martin were first and second, while also ranking in the top 10 overall among the K2 skiers.
On the boys side Jonathan Hutchison and Riley Seger were first and third for the WMSC. Cameron Alaexander and Jeffrey Cadman of the WMSC were first and third in the second race.
In slalom, Siobhan Finan and Mikayla Martin were second and third for the home club, while Sam Mulligan and Jeffrey Cadman were first and second for the boys.
