The Whistler Storm senior girls volleyball team recently won a tournament at Howe Sound Secondary against the teams they would face in the Zone Playoffs.

At the Zone Playoffs, which took place in Whistler, the Storm finished second after losing in the finals to West Vancouver’s Mulgrave School, a team they had beaten at Howe Sound.

A wildcard round robin was later played at Whistler Secondary to determine which high school would get a berth for the provincial championship.

The girls faced stiff competition from Victoria’s Glenlyon-Norfolk secondary school, and Langley’s Credo Christian, and came up short in their bid for the provincials.

Skills and team play were much improved over the course of the season, thanks to the solid coaching of Sue Oliver.

The Whistler Storm junior girls volleyball teams finished their season with a third place finish a tournament hosted at Whistler last week. They played their best ball of the season in the consolation final, beating a strong Pender Habour team.

The Blue Team was anchored by Becky Bennett, Emily Macalister, Alexa Treleaven and Julianna Waters. Jessie Morden, Brook Carrell, Cassie Kentwell, and Carley Galt also contributed to a strong Whistler effort.

The White Team displayed amazing team play, hustle, and skill to win the championship match against Pemberton. Lilli Baker, Brittany Duggan and Carly DePatie provided solid play at the net, while Megan Lande and Brittany Kingzett provided consistent passing and offence. Mia Daniels and Christine Inniger served for many points and provided good sets for the attackers.
