Normally, Whistler crowds are chillin’ to Rudd’s heartfelt and
soul shining sounds at the Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival in the
spring. However, this year he makes an early winter appearance.
Rudd’s compassion extends to lyrics rooted in Australia’s
indigenous culture, spirituality, the environment and a passionate celebration
of life. The one-man show fills out to band proportions with the award-winning
artist drawing on everything from guitars, shakers and didgeridoos to slide
guitars, tongue drums, stomp boxes and slide banjo — sometimes playing up
to three instruments at one time.
As an Australian and Canadian resident, Rudd has built a strong
North American following, and is now going global.
The New York Times raved: "...Xavier Rudd plays jazzy,
syncopated guitar as he broods, something like Dave Matthews with an occasional
toot of a didgeridoo.”
Tickets for the concert, presented by Upstream Entertainment, go on sale Friday, Sept. 22 at 10 a.m. Call Ticketmaster at 604-280-4444.
