The Conservation Officer Service is investigating who shot a moose out of season and left it on the side of the road.

The animal was poached on Nov. 24 on the Lillooet River Forest Service Road north of Pemberton.

The Pemberton Wildlife Association is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to conviction, said association president Trevor Renard.

"We want people with information to call the RAPP line," Renard said.

The moose was shot in an area where there is no moose hunting permitted, said conservation office Tim Schumacher in a release.

The Pemberton Valley, in the winter, can support between 50-70 animals.

Moose populations generally fluctuate with wolf populations and the current moose population is estimated at between 30-70 animals.

Anyone with information about a suspect or other information related to this investigation is asked to call the RAPP line at 1-877-952-7277 — the information will be treated as confidential.
