The Whistler Mountain Ski Club got off to a great start to the season at home with three podium sweeps and the lion's share of the medals at the Teck juvenile race series over the weekend. Skiers from the WMSC, Grouse, Cypress and Seymour took part.

The races took place in the recently completed Dave Murray Training Centre, which follows the Ptarmigan run, a new dedicated ski and snowboard training area that was reshaped and adjusted over the summer to improve the slope and create a better finish area.

In the giant slalom on Saturday the WMSC took nine of 12 podiums.

In boys K2/J, Riley Seger of the WMSC placed first by almost three quarters of a second, followed by teammate James Crawford and Sam Mulligan of Grouse Mountain.

In the girls K2/J it was a Whistler sweep with Mikayla Martin in first, Stefanie Fleckenstein in second and Esme McTavish in third.

In boys K1, where competitors got one run instead of two, Finn Iles of the WMSC was the top skier, followed by teammates Kyle Alexander and Kasper Woolley.

In girls K1, Kristina Natalenko of Grouse took the gold, followed by Katie Fleckenstin and Anna Gosney of Whistler.

In the slalom on Sunday, Sam Mulligan of Grouse took the boys K2/J race, followed by Alex Gershon and Max Peiffer of the WMSC.

In girls K2/J it was Mikayla Martin in first once again — this time with a gap of over four seconds to her credit after two runs. Sonia Stambolian of Grouse was second, while Chantal Deane was third for the WMSC.

In K1, the top three boys were Finn Iles, Asher Jordan and Scott McGrath, all from the WMSC.

On the girls' side it was Frances MacDonald and Nicole Mah of Grouse up front, with Martina Gershon of the WMSC placing third.
