The search continues for a woman who reportedly fell into Nairn Falls south of Pemberton this week.
RCMP received the report just before 3 p.m. on June 19. Although police, search and rescue, ambulance and fire crews attended the scene, at press time, the woman has not been found.
Officials have not yet confirmed the identity of the missing hiker. Pemberton Search and Rescue could not be reached by deadline.
Hitchhiker reportedly assaulted by driver before escaping vehicle
Police are investigating a report from a Whistler woman who claims she was "touched inappropriately" by a man who picked her up while she was hitchhiking on Highway 99 this week, police said.
The woman told police a man who claimed to be from Squamish picked her up from Creekside the night of June 17 in his light blue-grey four-door sedan. The man, who introduced himself as Larry, reportedly refused to drop the woman off at Alta Lake Road as she requested, and then proceeded to "touch her inappropriately," police said.
The woman also posted to the Whistler Summer Facebook group to warn others.
"I gave him the opportunity to stop for about 20 seconds and when he kept driving and began touching various parts of my body and saying 'I love you' I put the car from Drive to Park. The vehicle stalled and I got out and ran," she wrote. "Anyway, please ladies, be safe! And if things feel off, they are! Take licence plates before you get in the car."
The driver is described as being South Asian with a heavy accent and larger build, in his late 40s or early 50s, with short salt-and-pepper hair. Anyone with information is asked to contact Whistler RCMP at 604-932-3044, or BC Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Suspects caught red-handed during break and enter
A trio of suspects is facing charges after an attempted break-and-enter to a Whistler home last week.
Just before 4:30 p.m. on June 16, police responded to a break-and-enter in progress at a home in the 2300 block of Taluswood Place. One female was arrested for assault and break-and-enter and held for court, while a second woman was released on the scene with a future court date. Police also arrested a male for breaching his court conditions and he was held in custody as well.
Further details on the incident were unavailable at press time.
'Aggressive, intoxicated male' arrested at Alpine Lodge
Staff at a local hostel requested police assistance last week to remove an "aggressive, intoxicated male" from the premises, RCMP said.
The call came in from the Alpine Lodge the night of June 18. Once on the scene, officers determined the man was not a guest of the hostel. He was then escorted off the property.
"The male was uncooperative and was arrested and taken to Whistler RCMP cells until he was sober and there was no longer a concern he would re-attend the lodge," wrote acting Staff Sgt. Rob Knapton in a release.
Impaired driver arrested without rear tire
A Whistler man is facing impaired driving charges after he was stopped on Highway 99 last week without a rear tire, police said.
After tracking down the 34-year-old male, police learned the vehicle was uninsured. He was arrested for drunk driving and released with a future court date.
