B.C. Government activates Y2K phone lines Answers to any questions or concerns about the effect of Y2K on B.C.'s essential services are just a phone call away. Action2000, a special office set up by the provincial government to handle regional Y2K issues, will operate the Y2K phone line through the Enquiry B.C. service. "B.C.'s key providers of essential services report that they have done their job in preparing for Y2K to help make sure the lights will be on, grocery stores are open and other key services will be working as usual," says Stuart Culbertson, B.C.'s Chief Information Officer. "But if problems or glitches do come up, we want to make sure British Columbians have a place to call with their concerns or questions." The line will be staffed from 8 a.m. Dec. 31 to 8 p.m. Jan. 2, as well as 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 3. The toll-free number from anywhere in B.C. is 1-800-663-7867. People can call the above number with questions about essential services by both public and private sectors, but all emergency calls should be directed to 911. "No disruptions to B.C.'s essential services are anticipated, but we have created back-up and emergency response plans in case there are glitches," says Culbertson.
