Young adult author visits Armchair Books

Laura Michelle Thomas promotes The Naked Storyteller
arts_arts1

Author Laura Michelle Thomas will be at Armchair Books in Whistler Village on Saturday, Sept. 27 to promote her new young adult novel The Naked Storyteller.

Much like her first novel, Polly Wants to Be a Writer (2013), The Naked Storyteller began as a fictionalized guide to storytelling based on a workshop she used to teach, but quickly morphed into a romantic comedy.

Based in the Lower Mainland, Thomas is the creator of the International Junior Authors Writing Contests and publisher of the e-zine jaBlog!

This is Thomas's second novel and is a hybrid young adult fantasy novel and writing guide for young authors, which she wrote for the thousands of aspiring young writers she mentors around the world.

Thomas, who is also a parent, said in a release: "I'm not a fan of endless, meaningless gaming and the gamification of education, which seems to be happening at the cost of deteriorating self-confidence, social skills and relationships. In this book, I poke fun at education and parenting. There are many funny and touching moments, but there is a hint of darkness and tragedy too, just below the surface. That little sledgehammer on the cover of the book, alongside the gorgeous red shoes and sexy legs, is there for a reason."

Thomas will be at Armchair Books from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Her website is www.laurathomascommunications.com.
