Milton Carrasco, CEO of Richmond-based Transoft Solutions, said employee donations to COVAX will be double-matched by both the company and himself.

A Richmond-based company has raised over $33,000 to help fight COVID-19 vaccine inequality around the world.

Milton Carrasco, CEO and co-founder of software company Transoft Solutions, previously told the Richmond News that employee donations to COVAX, a global vaccine sharing initiative, would be double-matched by both himself and the company.

“I believe that all of us have a duty and obligation, as part of a global community, to be helping whenever we can,” Carrasco told the News last week.

The fundraiser wrapped up at the end of May.

In total, Transoft Solutions raised $33,317 for COVAX – over $3,317 from employees, with $15,000 donated by the company as well as by Carrasco.

According to Transoft, the total donation to COVAX will provide approximately 2,753 vaccine doses. It costs about USD$20 to fully vaccinate (two doses) one person against COVID-19.

COVAX was launched in April 2020, co-led by GAVI, The Vaccine Alliance, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness and the World Health Organization, as well as key delivery partner UNICEF.
