Richmond school board chair Sandra Nixon will not be seeking re-election in the fall election.

Nixon, who also ran as the NDP candidate in the last federal election in Richmond Centre, has served two terms on the Richmond Board of Education, with the last two years as board chair.

Nixon tweeted the news on Tuesday morning, saying it’s been “an absolute honour” to serve as a school trustee and board chair.

“It’s time to step back as I consider both personal and professional priorities,” she tweeted.

In her Twitter post, Nixon further said she’s been grateful to be involved in “cultivating a culture of equity, inclusion, innovation, engagement & sustainability.”

The municipal election is set for Saturday, Oct. 15 for mayor, eight city councillors and seven school trustees.
