More than 80 per cent of North Shores residents say they will get a fall booster for COVID-19, if they haven't had one already, according to a new poll.

The province is currently doling out bivalent vaccines from Moderna tailored to the Omicron variant of the virus, and Health Canada recently approved Pfizer's latest vaccine which target's the most recent sub-variant. Provincial and federal health authorities are encouraging the population to get a booster shot, which should decrease the likelihood of serious illness and reduce stress on the health-care system.

The North Shore News polled 1,614 online readers and asked the question: Will you be getting a COVID-19 booster shot?

The poll ran from Oct. 14 to 19. Of the 1,614 votes, we can determine that 638 are from within the community. The full results are as follows:

I've already had one. 54.08 % local, 52.35 % total
I will go when I get the invite. 22.26 % local, 21.38 % total
I will get around to it but it's not a priority. 7.05 % local, 7.19 % total
I did get vaccinated against COVID-19 but I don't plan on getting boosters. 10.50 % local, 10.90 % total
I won't be getting any COVID vaccines. 6.11 % local, 8.18 % total

The BC Centre for Disease Control, however, has not provided any updates on the number of people who've received a fourth dose of vaccine.

Results are based on an online study of adult North Shore News readers that are located in North Vancouver and West Vancouver. The margin of error which measures sample variability is +/- 2.43%, 19 times out of 20.
