North Shore residents don't want to host another Olympics: poll

Only one-third of North Vancouver and West Vancouver residents want to see the Games return in 2030

The 2030 Olympic Games are looking for a host city and North Shore's residents have come to a consensus on where they should be: Not here.

North Shore News polled 1,506 North Shore News readers and asked the question: Should Vancouver pursue another Olympic Games?

The poll ran from Oct. 26 to Nov. 2 on our website. Of the 1,506 votes, we can determine that 646 are from within the North Shore community. The full results are as follows:

Yes, it would be a lot of fun and good for the local economy. 33.44 % local, 33.47 % total    
No, it would be more trouble and cost than it is worth. 47.52 % local, 48.01 % total    
Maybe after we have solved the housing and opioid crises. 19.04 % local, 18.53 % total

Although there is a campaign afoot to bring the Olympics back to Vancouver, the poll reflects a wider trend of skepticism toward hosting the Games.

When Vancouver hosted the 2010 Games, the North Shore got a cut of the action with Cypress Mountain hosting skiing and snowboarding events.

Results are based on an online study of adult North Shore News readers that are located in North Shore. The margin of error – which measures sample variability – is +/- 2.52%, 19 times out of 20.
