Travel + Leisure Magazine has ranked the top five cities in Canada and Vancouver was included in the roundup.

The New York-based travel magazine notes that Canada is known for its "polar bears, temperate coastal rain forests, and stunning ski mountains" but that its cities "offer excitement and charm, too."

The magazine's "World's Best Awards" survey, which was open for voting from Jan. 11 to May 10, 2021, allowed readers to choose their favourite destinations around the world. Voters rated the cities on their "sights and landmarks, culture, cuisine, friendliness, shopping, and overall value."

Quebec City took the top spot, with the survey author highlighting that the historic city is "beloved for its cafés, bistros, and cobblestoned streets" that lend to its old-world charm. Readers were particularly fond of the walled portion of the city, which is a protected UNESCO World Heritage site. Fans also loved the views, culture, and cuisine.

Vancouver claimed the second spot, with readers praising the coastal city's natural beauty and opportunities for adventure. Other voters "commented on its cleanliness, accessibility, impressive public-transit system, and small-town feel" as well as the food.

Halifax placed third, with readers highlighting its "small-town feel" and friendly locals as well as the breathtaking Bay of Fundy. Montreal came fourth, with voters praising its "European feel, varied cuisine, and rich cultural offerings."

Banff, Alberta, rounded out the top five. Readers praised the city's natural beauty, particularly its national park.
