Luncheon Chatelaine Editor-in-chief Jane Francisco of Canada's top women's magazine to speak at the Kathy Barnett Leadership event.

Tickets for the Kathy Barnett Leadership Luncheon are fast selling out.

The annual event, which takes place this year on Friday, March 8, also International Women's Day, will be focused on how mentorship can change a community.

Guest speaker Jane Francisco, editor in chief of Chatelaine, and event host Sophie Lui, Global BC Morning News host, will be taking the stage at the event.

From her Toronto office this week, Francisco said she was looking forward to the event, as well as seeing Whistler for the first time.

"If sharing any of my experiences can help women, if that is something that does move the dial for anyone, then obviously I would want to be able to do that," she said.

Francisco has been Chatelaine's editor-in-chief for more than three years. She has also been editor-in chief of Style at Home magazine, Glow — the beauty and health magazine, as well as Wish magazine.

"I have the opportunity to learn something new almost all the time and I've been doing this job in various places and iterations for almost 20 years and what makes it continuously enjoyable is the fact that I'm always learning, and I'm always learning from the people around me, particularly," said Francisco.

New ideas can come from any place in the organization, from the most senior executives to junior staff members. Being open to those ideas, listening to fresh perspectives, or revisiting ideas that have been dismissed in the past is extremely valuable, she said.

Mentoring, she added, is a big part of her management style.

"I think one of the great things about being a woman is that sharing in discussion is a big part of our culture and ethos," said Francisco. "So, from a purely entertainment perspective, I also look forward to an event like this."

Tickets are $65. The luncheon takes place at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler from 12 to 2 p.m. on March 8.
