10 and Under ski snowcross draws a crowd

Maja Woolley wins qualifier and all five rounds of competition

Whistler Blackcomb hosted a special Snowcross event this past weekend geared to skiers aged 10 and under, with close to 60 athletes turning out to race the course on Blackcomb.

In Ski Girls 10 and Under, Maja Woolley won the qualifier and all five rounds of competition to take first place, followed by Erin Dawson, Jenny Shannon and Sarah Pudritz. Also in the top eight were Jillian Deane, Emma Samson, Summer Sprenger and Ronin Devine.

In Ski Boys 10 and Under it was Blaire Nellis all the way. He was third in the qualifier and won all five rounds to get into the final. Nathan Romanin was second, Jack Forsyth third and Jake Bennett fourth.

Rounding out the top eighth were Nico Quinn, Noah Rothier, Jacob Lokas and Konrad Rieper.

This weekend, Mar. 5-6 the racing continues with the Whistler Blackcomb Snowcross, Presented by Powerade. This is the third and final cross race of the season, and will be open to all age groups, skiers and snowboarders.

Saturday is a training qualifier day, while Sunday is more training before participants get into the race brackets. Registration is available through Friday at Guest Relations for $44.80, while race day registration is $50 on Saturday at the Rendezvous Lodge until 9:45 a.m.

Helmets are mandatory, mouth guards are recommended and other protective gear may not be a bad idea either.
