2005 Cultural Cabaret a mix of local and Lower Mainland talent

SWARM, Lavalee, and others to perform at MY Place

What: Celebration 2010 Cultural Cabaret

Where: MY Millennium Place

When: Saturday, Feb. 12, 8 p.m.

Tickets: $8/$10/$18

The lineup for next weekend’s Celebration 2010 Cultural Cabaret will include a strong component of acts hailing from the Lower Mainland.

Aboriginal recording artist Wayne Lavalee and comedy performer Deborah Williams will join dance performer Trina Eby and members of the Whistler Dance Academy as well as beloved local southern-fried rock duo The Hairfarmers on the Millennium Place stage.

The Cultural Cabaret is a signature event of the Celebration 2010 Whistler Arts Festival – the Whistler Arts Council’s annual arts extravaganza occurring each February in the years leading up to the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

Last year’s debut Cabaret event presented an all-local lineup of music, theatre and cultural performers interspersed with speeches by ex-Olympians living in Whistler and other local personalities.

While last year’s event was a VIP invitational, this year’s Cabaret is open to the public. Tickets are $10, available in advance through TicketMaster or at Millennium Place. The show begins at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12.

The evening will close with a separate ticketed performance by SWARM. The electrifying experimental percussion troupe from Vancouver is returning to the MY Place stage after a full-house show in January 2004.

The SWARM performance runs from 10:30 to 11:30 p.m. and requires a separately purchased $8 ticket.

The Cultural Cabaret is a co-presentation of the Whistler Arts Council and the VANOC Sea to Sky office. For more information on Celebration 2010 Whistler Arts Festival events go to www.whistlerartscouncil.com.
