2010 bid chair to speak at fireside chat

The Vancouver Whistler 2010 Bid Corporation’s fireside chats will continue on May 30 with Bid Chair Marion Lay as the guest speaker.

Lay just returned from Europe where she accepted the International Olympic Committee’s 2001 Women and Sport Trophy for the Americas for her contributions to Canadian sport and the advancement of women in sport.

Among her achievements, Lay competed in the 1964 and 1968 Olympic Summer Games and brought home a bronze medal in the 4x100 freestyle swimming relay in 1968. She also founded the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women in Sport and Physical Activity.

As the chair for the Vancouver Whistler bid, Lay will speak about her experiences as an Olympian, her work in promoting women in sport, and her role as the chair of the 2010 Board of Directors that guides bid activities with a mission to win the right to host the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and Paralympic Games in Vancouver and Whistler.

The fireside chat will take place at the Tantalus Lodge at 7 p.m.. Parking is free with a pass from the lodge.

Previous speakers at the monthly fireside chats include champion downhiller Steve Podborski, the marketing director for the bid corporation; Charles Parkinson, the director of sport; and Terry Wright, general manager of bid development.
