Re: “Federal government to grow tourism

The only way to lower green house gas emissions is to burn less fossil fuels. (Less consumption). Tourism is one of the most GHG intensive industries because of all the fuel burned to power planes and cars. Why does Trudeau want to double international tourism (the most green house gas intensive tourism)? Why do the Town of Whistler and the Federal Government want to double GHG from tourism while killing the Canadian oil and gas industry. Totally hypocritical. This plan will increase worldwide GHG production while converting high paying oil and gas jobs to low paying tourism jobs. It will cost provincial and federal government billions in royalty revenue in the process

Why does the federal government want to double international tourism (the most green house gas producing tourism) at a time when we have committed to lower GHG emissions? How can the Town of Whistler and Trudeau support doubling tourism while they are killing the oil and gas industry? Completely hypocritical.

Re: “Whistler climate-change letter draws ire of fossil-fuel industry

Great that this has been walked back a bit. It should be noted that this article incorrectly says that 0.08% of human caused emissions are caused by CNRL. In fact less than 20% of the emissions from oil are created by the production & refining of oil. Over 80% is caused by the end user (all of us) when we burn the oil. It is not fair or correct to blame CNRL for emission that are caused when we drive, heat our homes, fly in planes, etc. So CNRL creates 0.016% of global emissions (20% of 0.08%). They could close down tomorrow and we would still be burning oil. It would just be coming from the USA or Saudi Arabia and the emissions from production would be happening there.

Re: “Whistler draws ire of oil industry with climate request

The only way to lower green house gas emissions is to burn less fossil fuels. (Less consumption). Tourism is one of the most GHG intensive industries because of all the fuel burned to power planes and cars. In fact about 535,000 tonnes of GHG are produced each year by transporting Whistler's 3 million visitors to Whistler. This amounts to 35 tonnes per Whistler resident. Average GHG emissions in Canada per person is 15 tonnes per year. So this makes Whistler and its industry one of worst offending regions in Canada. The mayor should not be throwing stones.

Re: “Whistler draws ire of oil industry with climate request

If Whistler wants to lower GHG emissions it should get out of the tourism industry. Far more green house gases are emitted from tourism than from oil & gas production.
