Re: “Council supports e-bike draft policy

I wonder if this will stop the entitled assholes who currently ride above flank on their ebikes because 'it's crown land, I can do what I want' with scant regard for the efforts of those who planned, built and maintain the trail.

Re: “OPINION: Heated debate over sunscreen’s effects on body and environment

"Is there a healthy alternative?"

The article asks this question as if there's any evidence that sunscreen isn't 'healthy'. That's a dangerous viewpoint as well all know the dangers of sun exposure and the associated cancer risk.

I'd like to think the journalist who wrote this would be lambasted if they made such a claim, without evidence, about vaccines. Shoddy and irresponsible.

Re: “Is it goodbye to Ironman?

The level of short sighted, classist, nimbyism that this event generates is unbelievable. Some people clearly can't see the bigger picture and enjoy biting the hand that feeds them. I almost look forward to the inevitable dip in visitors and the associated whinning from the plebs about how quiet they are and how thier untaxed tips have gone.

Re: “Whistler neighbourhood calls for parking restrictions

Jack is right, there's not going to be many, if any, mountain bikers parking up in that cul de sac for westside trail access. It's a hiking trail head. Bikes are going up from Function, Stonebridge or the top of Alpine Way.

The answer would be better enforcement for illegal parking and maybe a bus service to the trail head. Seems weird that when you're about to hike up a literal mountain a few extra easy kms to the trail head would be a problem, but it seems to be the case.

Re: “Rezoning continues for private employee-housing projects

90% of people in town: "We need more housing!"
People who own property: "But my property value!"

Re: “Wildfire smoke a 'chemical soup' for those who inhale it

"Inhaling smoke from a wildfire can be equal to smoking a couple of packs of cigarettes a day depending on its thickness, said a researcher studying wildfires in Western Canada."

Inhaling how much? One or two breaths? The same amount as smoking as a couple of boxes of fags? Being out in it all day? Come on Pique, give us some useful information.

Re: “Bear dies in fall from tree after being tranquilized by COS

Are black bears endangered? Are there plenty of other habitats around BC? Will the loss of a handful of bears in Whistler each year have a damaging effect on the overall population? If they weren't cute would anyone care so much?
